November 05 Monthly Report

As reported last month visitor numbers this year continue to be well down on last year. These green fees are a major source of income to us and it is disappointing to see them at around 15% down. Other clubs are reporting similar results and the general view is that the poor weather this summer has been the major cause. However our membership numbers are similar to those of last year and we must be a hardy lot since for the men, despite the weather, the number of entrants in club competitions has been very solid at 18% up on last year and the ladies this year have been able to hold a full programme of competitions, the first for some time.

The competitive season is virtually over and the recent results are; for the men, the October medal was won by John Don MacKenzie who had a great end to the season, also winning the Major Gunn Trophy, Gus Murray was this year's match play champion, beating Simon (Hope) MacKenzie in the final in a competition which started way back in May with 22 entrants. The President's Shield, a 4-ball competition, was rained off and has been re-arranged. We went to Ullapool for a 4-way team match, our 8-man team had a great day out, we come fourth and enjoyed ourselves!! The ladies programme has concluded with the following results; the ladies' champion, decided in a very wet stableford competition, was Karen Starr, the ladies also got 'wet feet' when they played the ladies from Isle of Skye GC but came out winners which makes them undefeated this season against other clubs, well done to all our ladies. In their October medal June Miller was successful, whilst in their final event, the October stableford competition, Karen Starr was the winner but very closely followed by just one point by Kirsty Milligan in second place. Our congratulations are extended to all those ladies who have competed this year to make it such a successful season for ladies.

During the winter, weather permitting, the captains; Dan Marshall and Karen Starr will be organising informal competitions for any member who would like a little gentle exercise!!

A final reminder to all members that our AGM this year will be held at 7.30pm on Friday 25th November in the Clubhouse, please do come along there are some key committee vacancies to be filled and your views and support are always welcomed. Whilst on the subject of future dates and events we have agreed, by popular demand, to incorporate our annual awards ceremony into and repeat, in the Clubhouse next year, a Quiz Night with buffet. The numbers will be limited so to avoid disappointment make a note now in your diary for 24th March 2006. Weather permitting we will be organising a 'social' competition, possibly a mixed Texas Scramble, on Monday 2nd January 2006 to help us get over our 'hangovers'. So put that date too in your diary and watch out for the details to be published in the Clubhouse.

On a personal note, since Angela and I will be moving away from Lochcarron early next year I will be resigning as the Golf Club Secretary at the AGM. I would like to thank everyone for all the support that I have received to enable me to undertake this office and to make it such an enjoyable and worthwhile experience, and also I would like to wish the Club and my successor all the very best for the future.
