September 05 Monthly Report
Like all businesses that depend on the good weather to benefit their income this month has produced rather mixed fortunes. We started extremely well but income has tailed off as the weather deteriorated and visitor have numbers reduced with the end of school holidays. The net effect is that we are 5% down on last year, but this could still be recoverable if we get a late summer surge.
The beneficiary of this weather though has been the course that is really starting to improve following the topsoil addition and the new drainage system. We now also have two immaculate oak benches positioned on the course just where tired golfers need to rest. Our thanks go to Stuart MacLeod and Kenny Black for their manufacture and to the storm earlier in the year for providing the raw material from the trees 'blown down' on the course.
Competitively the weather has also taken its toll. Played in atrocious conditions, with only a handful of competitors, Gus Murray won the One Club (+ putter) Competition whilst our men's home match against Gairloch GC was abandoned after playing 6 holes due to the flooded greens making putting impossible. All other competitions were played without problems. Angus MacKenzie secured the August Medal whilst Gerry Howkins won the Ian Finlayson Trophy. Our home match against Skeabost GC (Skye) was very closely contested with the visitors winning by 7 & half to 6 & half. Our ladies played at Gairloch GC and performed extremely well, winning by 3 matches to 1. The August Ladies Medal was won by Karen Starr.
Our new website is fully operational, please look at it on www.lochcarrongolf.co.uk we are very pleased with the outcome. We already have reciprocal links with many local businesses but are happy to include others that are appropriate. We are grateful to the help received from CLiK Development in setting up the site but would still welcome any old material, pictures etc. for our history page.
We now have in stock, in the Clubhouse, golf jumpers with our logo incorporated. A good range of sizes is available priced at £30 (members £25) each. So if you want to play and 'look the part' now is the time to buy.
