Lochcarron Open 2010
Sponsored by Borland Engineering & Lenny Crossley.

The golfing god's once again smiled upon the Lochcarron Open on Saturday 10th July. Despite the weather during the week leading up to the day being one of strong winds and heavy rain, Saturday brought blue skies and sunshine. It did turn overcast late morning but stayed dry until late evening with a breeze getting up late afternoon.

Due to the adverse weather and machinery problems the Greens Team had to pull out all the stops at the last minute in order to get the course playable. Thanks to their heroic efforts we were rewarded with good reasonably fast greens and fine fairways. However, as if the course was not hard enough the rough proved to be even more formidable than normal, with even the first cut of rough making it almost impossible to find a ball straying into it. Anyone foolish enough to go into the primary rough could abandon any hope of finding a house in there let alone a ball!! The extent of the rough was due entirely to machinery breakdown with the repairs taking more time than anticipated and leaving no time to cut the rough down.

Some excellent scores were returned and the day produced a local winner in Robin Arnott with a nett 56. Well done Robin. As usual we had the pleasure of welcoming Berwyn Jones and the lads from the land of the Red Dragon with Berwyn carding a good nett 66. A strong contingent from Muir of Ord Golf Club put in a good challenge in the afternoon but failed to overtake the leading score. It was good to see that Scott Borland from our sponsors carded a nett 63 to take 3rd place in Division 1 and Chris Borland took 3rd place in Division 3 with a nett 65. Well done to both. On the local front as well as the overall winner Lochcarron Golf Club took 1st and 2nd places in Division 1

thanks to good rounds from the ever consistent Simon MacKenzie Nett 62 and Bill Roberts Nett 62.

In Division 2 Michael McMillan came home with a nett 62 to win first place.

Thanks to all players who took part and made the day a memorable one and we look forward to welcoming you all again in 2011.

Once again thanks to all who helped during the day and to the Greens Staff who spent a lot of time just prior to the open preparing the course.

Thanks to Ian and Sue for proving much needed refreshment during the day.

A big thank you to our sponsors for their magnificent contribution. Without all this help and support the day would not be the success it once again has proved to be.

See you all in 2011.
Secretary.
