June 2010 Newletter
Gent's Section.
On 8th May the team travelled to Strathpeffer for our away match. The weather started dull but brightened up as we set off and eventually turned sunny. A good match ensued with some close fought games but sadly we went down fighting and lost 4-2.
Simon McKenzie won the Midweek League on 12th May.
The Greenkeeper's Trophy was played on 15th May with the weather cold and windy. Despite conditions the winner was Gus Murray with an excellent 58 (69-11-58).
Once again, the Summer League played on 19th May resulted in another win by Simon McKenzie.
On 22nd May we played for the Thompson Trophy with a win for Robin Smith with Ian Matheson in second place and Tom Watson third.
On 29th May arch rivals Skeabost from Skye paid their annual visit to us. Despite a late comeback from their team we managed to come home the winners, though whether it will be enough of a lead to win back the Rafin Jaki Cup when we visit them remains to be seen. The match was followed by and excellent meal in the clubhouse, our thanks to Ian and Sue for that, and much quaffing of the local waters!! Once again a tremendous day thanks to all who took part.
The June Medal was played on 4th and it was good to see that some of our junior members turned out. However, the down side was the fact that they outplayed us more senior members and in a close tussle John Smith triumphed over his sibling Robin by dint of a better inward half both returning very good 56's. Tom Watson trailed in third with a 58.
The midweek league on 9th June finally saw a new name on the winner's sheet, Michael McMillan with Nett 58 (75-17-58). Second was the ever present Simon McKenzie with a Nett 60 (70-10-60). And third was Gus Murray with a Nett 62 (72-10-62).
The first round of the Matchplay competition has now been completed with the following results:

The April Stableford was won by Fiona Matheson and the May by Kay Liston.
Two matches have been played one against Strathpeffer and one against Gairloch and both resulted in good wins for our Ladies. Both matches enjoyed the benefit of some fine weather and the course in good condition. Once again thanks go to Ian and Sue for providing a good meal afterwards.
