May 2010 Newletter
We are now well into the new season so time for an update.
As usual the year kicked off with our Committee Flag Day on Saturday 27th March. The Captain and Fiona Matheson (for Lady Captain) got proceedings under way leading off with the Flag. The weather decided to turn wet and by ten minutes into the game a gale with horizontal rain blew up. Just before it was beginning to look like the game would have to be abandoned it relented and play was able to carry on. The winner was Ian Matheson who picked up the flag and managed to take it as far as the 18th green.
The April Medal was won by Dan Marshall with Nigel Firth in second place and Simon McKenzie in third.
The Major Gunn Trophy resulted in another victory for Ian Matheson with Nigel Firth again in second place with Angus McKenzie in third.
Saturday 17th April the team went to Fort Augustus for the first match of the season. We managed to take defeat in our stride and were only saved by a win on Gus Murray's part to avoid a complete whitewash. We look forward to getting our revenge next year when we play them at home.
The Pairs Championship resulted in a win for Gus Murray and Robin Arnott.
The surprise of the season so far was the win by the club Secretary (Gerry Arscott) in the May Medal. This is a rare event as he usually fights tenaciously for last place.
The Summer League and Midweek League are now under way and all are welcome to come and join in the fun.
Don't forget our Open on 10th July. If you want to play you need to book a Tee Time soon as they are filling up very quickly.
Secretary.
