July 05 Monthly Report
As we progress towards mid-season we can reflect on what we have achieved so far this season and what there is to look forward to. All competitions have been held and well supported despite the weather conditions. For the men Gus Murray won the June Medal, whilst Finlay Matheson (milk) secured the Nanite Shield in a strokeplay competition, our captain, Dan Marshall, performed well by winning the Golden Putter. Our men went to Gairloch on 11th June and had a great day out, unfortunately they were well beaten in the inter-club golf competition but returned happy in the thought that they will beat the Gairloch men in the return match here on 13th August! Ladies results for the month include the June Medal that was won by Karen Starr. The Lochcarron ladies also had a very enjoyable friendly match at home against the Gairloch ladies in which all our ladies (Mary Henery, June Miller and Karen Starr) won their ties…well-done ladies! I am sure that Gairloch will be champing at the bit for their revenge at the return match in August. Finally our congratulations go to Karen who won the silver handicap prize at the Fortrose and Rosemarkie Ladies Open in June. Don't forget ladies, any of you who wish to come along and join in the ladies' evenings at the course, whether you have a handicap or not, will be very welcome teeing off at 6.15pm on Thursdays.
The next big event on the calendar is the Lochcarron Open on 9th July. It looks like being one of the best supported for several years. More clubs than ever will be represented and very few tee times remain for those competitors who have not yet entered. For those men or ladies who have not entered but who still wish to do so please go and see Gus in the clubhouse right away and book your time. If you need your handicap renewed, you still have just about enough time to submit your three cards. We welcome supporters and visitors to join us in clubhouse during the day. Food and drink is available all day that starts with breakfast at 8.00am and finishes with dinners served well into the evening as we celebrate and toast the winners. In addition this year we appreciate that whilst supporters are waiting for their 'champions' to complete their rounds entertainment would be appreciated, so live music will be available - so do come along to the clubhouse and help us make this year something special.
We are currently revamping our web site, which we anticipate being operational before the Open. We are being helped by CLiK Development, who locally have David Kindness working with us on this project. One thing that we would welcome, to make the site more complete, would be some old pictures and stories suitable for our club history page. If you have anything appropriate please let David or Peter White now on 722206.
On 16th July we will be at the Highland Games again with our pitching competition for all comers. However this year we are donating half the proceeds to Leisure Centre fundraising, so please come along to Attadale and support not only us but also the Leisure Centre in their worthy cause.
Finally we would like to thank all those pupils from both Plockton High School and Lochcarron Primary School who have come along, supported and enjoyed our junior golf programme despite sometimes very inclement weather. A 'thank you' also to those teachers and parents that made it all possible.
