June Update

It's been a busy month at the club both for competitions and in making arrangements for the Centenary Celebration, which took place a couple of nights ago. We are very pleased that the night was well received. It was a lovely occasion and a grand opportunity to get those ceilidh dancing shoes on. It was so good to see so many folk taking the chance to renew old friendships and make new ones.

Murdo Stag, who MC'd the evening most efficiently, introduced the speakers, Roddy Butcher and Nommie Cameron. Roddy gave us an excellent potted history of the club and its development over the years, while Nommie brought us right up to date with background on the new clubhouse and the more recent efforts to improve the playing conditions of the course. All agreed that we have had a long and proud local history, and we are in a good position to move forward confidently into our second century.

A particularly special event during the night was the presentation of an Honorary Life Membership of the Club to Roddy (Jockan) MacDonald, who is our longest serving member…and is STILL winning trophies (see below)!!!!

We'd like to thank Gairloch GC for their kind presentation of a beautiful commemorative crystal bowl engraved with the crests of both clubs. We also thank the generous donors of our terrific raffle prizes. They really were very much appreciated.

Now, the golf winners for the last month are as follows:

Gents:
Graham Trophy - David Smith
June medal - Gus Murray
Wednesday League - Gus Murray
Lochcarron Gents won the match at Skeabost by 8 points to 3, but lost a really close match at Gairloch by 3 points to 2.

Ladies:
June Medal - Karen Starr
Ladies Stableford League - June Miller
Ladies Foursomes - June Miller and Karen Starr
Lochcarron Ladies won the match with Gairloch at home by 5 points to 2

A good contingent of Lochcarron gents went to Gairloch for their Open, and had a really good day. Robin Arnott and Callum Morrison both came third in their handicap sections, and Bill Roberts won the nearest the pin. Well done guys!

Bart McFleat and Roddy Hope also enjoyed their rounds at the Strathpeffer Gents Walk On Open. Finally, Fiona, Keira and Karen had a grand day out at the Nairn Ladies Open.

Our own forthcoming Open events are the Ladies Centenary Open on July 5th, the Gents Centenary Open on July 12th, and the Mixed Open Texas Scramble on 2nd August. We have spaces left for the Ladies Open and for the Texas Scramble, so if you'd like to book your place to play, please contact Gus (07516 554336) for the Texas Scramble, and Karen (01520 755240) for the Ladies Open.

Please note that the clubhouse is open throughout July for green fees and club hire etc, with the Tee Room serving refreshments and meals Monday and Tuesday 10am to 6pm, and Wednesday to Friday 10am to 8pm. On Sundays, the Tee Room is open mid-day to 8pm, serving roast lunches between 1pm and 4pm - bookings preferred for roast lunches please (call Gus on 07516 554336). The Tee Room is closed on Saturdays.

As always, new members and visitors are very welcome! An honesty box system for green fees runs when the clubhouse is closed. Do sign the new visitors book and give your comments. For more information about the club please explore our web site.
