April Update
As most of you already know (and you're going to be SOOOOO bored of me telling you this year), it's our centenary this year. To celebrate, we're trying out a few new events, and they are:
Centenary Ladies' Open - 5th July
Centenary Gents' Open - 12th July
Centenary Open Texas Scramble - 2nd August
All of these events will require players to pre-book their tee times. We can take bookings from now on, so please contact Gus on 07516 554336 to reserve your place.
In the social calendar, we have booked the Ledgowan Lodge Hotel for our Centenary Dinner on 20th June. This event will be ticket only, and we'll put an advert in next month's An Carrannach for this. Numbers will be limited, and the tickets will go sale on a first come first served basis, so can I suggest you make sure you get in early to ensure you're not disappointed?
The sharp-eyed amongst you might have noticed a number of errors in the Fixtures list you received with your membership this year. The corrections for the card are as follows:
3rd July (not 4th) for Gents medal,
9th Aug (not 20th Sep) for Ladies match v Gairloch, and
Gus' mobile number is as already noted above in this report.
We're sorry for these mistakes, and we hope it hasn't caused any inconvenience.
Some of you will also have noticed the long awaited arrival of the digger! Drainage work has already begun around the 8th green and along the 9th fairway. Our greens committee (Gus, Tom and Finlay) has prepared a schedule of works to be completed during the year, and this is just one bit of it. We feel that improving the condition of the course is our number one priority, and drainage is one of the key issues affecting the course. There will be other jobs to do however, which are more manual in nature, so we'd be delighted if members would like to support the club by offering any assistance they can. Please see Gus if you can spare some time. Even if you can't offer time or muscle power, picking up any litter you find during your round of golf and depositing it in the bins at the clubhouse makes a huge difference to how the course looks to visitors and locals alike.
Now…on to the GOLF!!
The season got off to a great start with Roddy Hope winning the Committee Flag Day competition. This was followed immediately afterwards by the prize giving in the clubhouse. In future, we plan to hold the prize giving alongside a quiz night at the end of the season. Our hope is that more members and guests will be able to attend, which should make it a really good night.
Our congratulations go to the other competition winners for this month, who are:
April Medals: Gus Murray - Gents; Keira McFleat - Ladies; Andrew Ford - Juniors
Mid Week League (Gents) - Jon Don MacKenzie
Stableford League (Ladies) - Keira McFleat
Pairs Championship Cup (Gents) - Murdo (Stag) MacKenzie and Gus Murray
Unfortunately, in the Match v Fort Augustus (Gents) - Lochcarron lost 4 1/2 - 1/2 …..better luck next time guys!
Please note that the clubhouse is open throughout May for green fees and club hire etc, with the Tee Room serving refreshments and meals Monday to Friday 11am to 5pm. On Sundays, the Tee Room is open mid-day to 6pm, serving roast lunches between 1pm and 4pm - bookings preferred for roast lunches please (call Gus on 07516 554336). The Tee Room is closed on Saturdays.
As always, new members and visitors are very welcome! An honesty box system for green fees runs when the clubhouse is closed. For more information about the club please browse our web site.
