October Update

I have quite a bit to report this month, so I'll start with last month's winners:

Major Gunn Trophy - Calum Morrison
Ladies Stableford - June Miller
Junior October Medal - John Smith
Gents October Medal - Calum Morrison
Ladies October Medal - June Miller

Our late developers this year are Calum Morrison and June Miller, well done to those two players for some excellent golf this month.

Congratulations go to our Club Champions this year, Simon MacKenzie and Keira McFleat. The Most Improved Players are Thomas Watson and Keira McFleat. The Gents Match Play champion is Simon MacKenzie, and I will confirm the Player of the Year in my next report.

2007 Review - It's been an exciting and successful year with enthusiasm and competition going strong among all the members. We have been very pleased to welcome a number of new members, and with the establishment of junior medals and junior coaching we are laying strong foundations for the future. If anyone is interested in getting involved in junior coaching for next year, then please contact Bart McFleat or any committee member.

The Golf Course has played well this year despite the conditions being wet for much of the season. Further drainage works will go ahead during the winter using our new digger, and we hope to carry out some work on new tees, and make greens improvements too. Because of this, and to allow the greens to be cored and scarified, we will be using winter greens from November onwards. Volunteers to help with works on the course are always needed, so please get in touch with any committee member if you have some time you can spare.

Through the winter - the club will be hosting winter league competitions for gents, ladies, and juniors, so watch the notice boards for information on when these games will be played, and let us hope for continued benign conditions!

2008 is our Centenary Year - please let any committee member have your suggestions for marking this milestone in the club's history. So far we have the following possibilities…centenary competition and meal; commemorative booklet (stories, records, photos etc please); friendly competitions with other clubs….you get the picture…the more suggestions we have, the better.

Please note that the Golf Club AGM is Friday 16th November at 7.30pm in the clubhouse. All members are strongly encouraged to attend in order to elect the committee for next year and decide various important matters for the 2008 season. This is YOUR club, so please come along and make your voice count.

As always, new members and visitors are very welcome! An honesty box system for green fees runs when the clubhouse is closed.
