August Update

Well, what can I say? To say things are hotting up is somewhat of an understatement! With two of our newer gentleman members producing remarkable scores (including a GROSS 60 (!) in a bounce game for a certain Mr T. Watson), the quality of golf at Lochcarron just now is hard to beat. Bart has also played some superb rounds recently, and will be on the list for having his handicap chopped! However, the old guard are not to be out done, and have fought back with gusto!

Results for the gents for the end of July and August are as follows: Gus and Norman won the foursomes championship, and the always friendly and fun away match with Skeabost resulted in a win for the home team (8 ˝ - 3 ˝ ), but a win in the overall fixture for Lochcarron. Bill Roberts took the August medal; Thomas took the August league game with a net 53(!); and Lochcarron won the home tie against Gairloch (3 ˝ - 2 ˝) but lost the overall fixture narrowly. Most recently, Simon has played tremendously well to win the Arthur Treherne 36 hole stableford competition.

In the newly inaugurated Junior medal, Ally Smith just pipped Michael Dolan, with Liam Smith coming a very creditable third. Andrew Ford also put in an excellent round for his handicap.

In the ladies section, the stableford scheduled for 28th July was postponed due to one of those days. The August medal was won by Karen, and the ladies' away tie with Gairloch resulted in a win for the visitors (Lochcarron 4 - Gairloch 2). We'd like to thank the Gairloch ladies for their wonderful hospitality - as usual, we all had a great day. We were also delighted to welcome two new lady competitors to our team…Kay Liston and Pam MacQueen.

Outside of Lochcarron, Keira and Karen played a couple of Opens this month. Well done to Keira for coming an excellent fourth (bronze section) in the Royal Dornoch Open, and also taking the longest drive for the bronze section at a very wet Inverness Open!

Finally, we are delighted to see yet another lady taking up the challenge of getting a handicap. Christine Murray was awarded her handicap this month…well done Christine, and good luck for the next competition!

As always, new members and visitors are very welcome!
