September 2006 Newsletter
The first weekend of the month saw our home match against Strathpeffer. The rain held of for most of the day and the home side came home the victors by 3 -1 after some closely contested games.
A change in the weather on 9th gave a fine sunny day also saw an end to Gus Murrays' run of Medal victories with a good win by Norman Cameron.
On 16th a good turnout contested the Presidents Shield, a Pairs competition, and the winners were Simon McKenzie and Thomas Watson (No not THE Tom Watson) a newcomer to the club with a Nett Score of 55.
This year Lochcarron played host to the Annual Fourway competition between ourselves, Gairloch GC, Ullapool GC and Strathpeffer GC. Lochcarron Members were Dan Marshall (Captain), Gus Murray, Murdo Stagg, Roddy Hope, Simon Hope, John Don Mackenzie, Ian Port and Bart McFleat. Against all the odds we came out on top so well done to all players.
The final trophy of the year was the Major Gunn and this was played in summerlike weather on last day of the month and was closely fought with Roddy Hope just getting his nose in front with a good 61. Hot on his heels were Roddy Butcher 62 and Bart Mc Fleat 62.
On the Ladies side June Miller ran away with the September Medal carding a superb 56. Well done June. (I see a handicap reduction in the offing!).
A new event on the calendar, The Celtic Nations Trophy was held at Inverness Golf Club on 10th September. Lochcarron send a team consisting of Katie McMillan (Junior), Keiran Murray (Junior), Karen Starr and Gus Murray. They had a tremendous day out and Katie and Karen came home with Runners-Up Individual Prizes. Congratulations to both. Next year it is hoped that teams from Scotland, Ireland, Wales, France and Canada will compete and I am sure we will be sending a team from our club again.
