July 2006 Newsletter
The Monthly medal was won by Gus Murray, who made it a double by also winning the Wednesday Medal. Well done Gus.
The 8th July was the day of the Open and the Results and a full report can be viewed on the website.
The Findlayson Trophy was contested on 22nd and resulted in a victory for a newcomer to our ranks, Robin Arnott. Well played Robin.
On the 26th in the evening a good turnout played in the 1 Club and a Putter competition. Nearly all contestants returned scores very close to their normal results. It just goes to show that you do not need to cart around all those clubs!! A close finish produced another win for Robin.
The end of the month saw a much anticipated visit by our arch rivals, Skeabost, who gave us a good beating (8-4), on our visit to them. The weather was reasonable and the rain held off. The match was hard fought and most of the games finished very close, with only the odd hole separating the winners and losers. The golfing gods smiled on the hosts and in a major upset we turned the deficit around and came home the victors by 8.1/2 to 3.1/2, with the overall score the two legs being 12.1/2 to 11.1/2 in Lochcarrons favour. Well played all the team, a superb effort. The win meant that the 'RAFIN JAKI' Cup has returned to Lochcarron for the first time since 1996. Needless to say a few 'drams' were sunk in honour of this event and the Skeabost boys departed in a somewhat happy state despite their loss!
A great finish to the month.
